Chekhov’s tragic play ‘Swan Song’ goes on stage at a theater hall in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Anton Chekhov’s tragic play ‘Swan Song’ has been staged at a theater hall in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Well-known Russian playwright and short story writer Anton Chekhov’s ‘Swan Song’ is currently being performed at the Ostad Mashayekhi Theater Hall in Tehran.

The Iranian performance is directed by renowned theater director Negin Fakhravi and will run until January 1, 2017.

‘Swan Song’ concerns an elderly actor who reminisces about his life and the parts he has played. The drama takes a tragic look at ambition and the sacrifices that must be made in order to succeed.

Chekhov wrote the one-act play in 1887, which was adapted from one of his previous stories, ‘Calchas’.

A swan song is an idiom for a final performance or production by an artist for the public, referring to an ancient belief that swans sing just before they die.

Besides directing, Fakhravi acts in the play alongside Saeed Taheri, Mohammad Gholami, Anita Oveisi, Maryam Rasooli, Ali Sayyar and Paria Rad.
